Amman, Feb 10 (Petra) - The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) announced on Tuesday that it has suspended the operations of 57 facilities and closed 13 others, in addition to issuing warnings to 1,400 facilities since the beginning of the current month, according to a JFDA statement.
The JFDA inspection and monitoring teams also shut down a confectionery workshop in Mafraq for violating approved health and hygiene standards. Violations included the use of eggs showing signs of spoilage, the absence of health certificates, and producing one type of confectionery without obtaining a permit.
The JFDA said its staff seized all materials at the workshop pending their destruction and referred those in charge to the competent judicial authorities to take legal action.
It also closed a date-packing factory for failing to obtain the necessary licenses. Field inspections revealed low compliance with approved health and hygiene standards, as well as the presence of labels lacking the factory’s name.
It added that its teams seized five tonnes of expired dates pending destruction and referred those responsible to the competent judicial authorities for legal action.
Since the beginning of the month, inspection teams have carried out 2,350 field visits to food establishments through branches across the kingdom.
